Asynchronous Scratch videos

Getting started: Making your account

Although you don't need an account to code, it helps you save your projects if you want to keep them in the future. Follow the tutorial below to help set up your account!

Lesson #1: Introduction to block Coding

In this lesson we learn about how we 'talk' to computers with code, begin using Scratch, and learn to make our characters move around the screen! Coordinate planes can be tricky - but don't give up!

Lesson #2: Introduction to Graphics

In this lesson we learn how to make new characters and add new backgrounds! We also discover how to make different characters do different things as we make them have a conversation. 'Wait' blocks are a good thing to know for this lesson!

Lesson #3:
Action-Reaction Coding

In this lesson we learn to make our characters react  to certain actions with messages and checkers!  Using broadcast and loop blocks, we can get our characters to interact with each other and the background. At  the end of this lesson, you will be able to make your own maze!

Lesson #4:
Advanced Input Response

In this lesson we learn how to use if/else blocks and variables! Later we get to use adjuster and question blocks in order to create a gameshow quiz for the user by the end of the lesson. Get your friends and family to try the quiz when you finish!

Lesson #5:

Position-relative movement

In this lesson we cover position-relative movement, or moving the character based on where they are! Next, we will teach you Boolean logic with AND and OR blocks. Towards the end, we will make a questionnaire, using the imputed preferences with Boolean logic to say the user's preference!

Lesson #6:

2D Dropper Game

In this lesson we learn about advanced collision blocks and making moving projectiles! Students will use what they have learned to make a 2d dropper game where the character dodges falling objects.

Lesson #7:

2D Platformer game

In this lesson we learn about gravity and floor collision to simulate jumping in our games! Next we will learn to design game levels, creating dangerous areas and usable objects. This will help us create our 2d platformer game where our characters will jump around the screen to reach a goal.

Lesson #8: Multiplayer Games

In this lesson we will learn to make multiple movable characters that can interact. We will use this to make multiplayer games, either collaborative or competitive, that you can play with your friends or family!

Lesson #9:
Individual Final Project

In this lesson we learn.... nothing! For our final project you get to make whatever game you would like using all the skills we have learned in our class. When you have finished, let your friends and family try out your game!
